The back and forth play continued in the opening 15 minutes of the half with Sherwood hitting the crossbar and Sandiacre testing their luck in front of goal but both teams denied on every effort.

Despite the young referee making some questionable decisions both teams managed to settle into the game, consistently attacking for the win.

Sherwood’s Ewan Robson saw opportunity in the 21st minute for The Wood, running the length of the pitch to support his teammates efforts, but couldn’t manage to find the back of the net to give his team a deserved lead.

Sherwood stepped up their play bringing possession back to a goal scoring territory but failed to contain a Sandiacre break away in the 32nd minute.

As the game was crying out for a goal, a slightly mistimed tackle by Sherwood’s Jordan Harris handed Sandiacre the goal scoring advantage when a penalty was awarded against the wood.

Though best efforts Liam Kerry could not get his hands to the ball and STFC find themselves ahead after 35 minutes (1-0)

Hungry to balance the score line before half time Sherwood get straight onto the attack once again.

Jordan Harris keen to make positive impact for Sherwood plays a stunning cross into the area in the 43rd minute finding the feet of Dale Gilliatt who had no option to give his team a deserved goal. (1-1)

Both teams open the second half with the same desire to win.

Jamie York makes an effort to stop Sandiacre in their tracks but finds himself on a yellow after 57th minute.

Sandiacre try to take advantage after unsettling the Sherwood team but fail as focus is found quickly and all their efforts are kept away by a strong SCFC defence.

Keen to get Sherwood ahead Starbuck makes a play with the ball who manages to find Gilliatt who shoots on target in the 69th minute but is saved by the keeper.

Sherwood didn’t have to wait too long to have another chance at goal, this time Jamie York with the strike who comfortably sinks his efforts to the back of the net (73’ 1-2).

York and Gilliatt kept a strong attacking partnership throughout the back end of the second half.

Determined to get a third goal Sherwood kept going at a pace that Sandiacre at times struggled too keep up with.

Steven Swoter tried his luck in the 80th minute but saw his efforts over the crossbar.

Jamie York found himself on target once more in the 87th minute but missed what should have been an easy 3rd goal for The Wood.

As play carried on well over 90 minutes Sherwood were still keen for the third goal, which did come. Sherwood’s Liam Theakstone was the man for the job finding the back of the net with his last kick of the game. (91’ 1-3)

A comfortable win sees the wood through to the FA vase 1st round proper where they are once again away. Worchester Town FC vs Sherwood Colliery FC 21st October 2017.
